My candidacy is 100% about substance.
Our society faces momentous challenges: an under-funded K-12 public education system; an inadequate and regressive tax system; an insufficient response to global warming; massive income inequalities; excessive corporate influence in the political process; institutionalized racial injustice; etc.
These challenges will not be meaningfully addressed via ideological grandstanding. Rather, addressing these challenges will require a highly informed, analytical and substantive approach. These are the hallmarks of my candidacy.
I aspire to be an analytical thought leader in the State Senate, on the major issues facing our community. I also aspire to work with the full range of diverse constituent groups in the 37th District, to ensure that the interests of the entire community are effectively represented.
I am a candidate to complete the State Senate term of Pramila Jayapal in the 37th Legislative District, if she prevails in her race to fill the seat of retiring U.S. Congressman Jim McDermott in the 7th Congressional District. Should she prevail, her replacement will be determined by a vote of the Precinct Committee Officers of the 37th Legislative District in December of 2016. I hope to earn your support in this election.
My website will help you understand how I seek to serve the 37th District as its State Senator. It contains information on my background, involvement with the Democratic Party and our Community, as well as policy positions and links to my columns for the South Seattle Emerald.
